In a steam cylinder the oil works in hot steam; in a worm gear, under heavy load and high temperature. Wear starts with deposits, a washed-off oil film and corrosion, before the machine loses tightness or efficiency.
Deposits in a hot cylinder
Mobil 600 W Super is made from thermally stable base oils. It limits deposits that form at high steam cylinder temperatures.
Film washed off by water
The oil keeps a strong film in the steam cylinder and resists water washout.
Rust and corrosion
It protects against rust and corrosion. It is chemically stable and resists oxidation and foaming.
Friction in worm gearsAdditives improve friction properties and film load capacity, so the manufacturer recommends this oil for enclosed worm gears.

It is ISO VG 460: 460 mm²/s at 40°C and 30.5 mm²/s at 100°C, with a viscosity index of 95. The flash point is 282°C and the pour point −6°C.
