Heat transfer oils

Mobiltherm 603, 605 and 610 are mineral heat transfer fluids (not heating fuel oil) for indirect, forced-circulation heating and cooling systems. Order online or ask an expert to choose the grade.

Mobiltherm 605

Mineral heat transfer fluid

Mobiltherm 600

Mineral heat transfer oil for indirect, forced-circulation heating and cooling systems in industrial processes.

Choose it when:

  • you have an indirect heating or cooling system
  • the oil runs in forced circulation
  • bulk oil in a closed system reaches up to 315°C

How the oil protects
  • Thermal cracking and coke
Mobiltherm 600 is made from highly refined base oils that resist thermal cracking. It protects the system against deposits, sludge and coke.
  • Oxidation and viscosity increase
The oil is thermally stable and resists oxidation, so it works long without deposits or viscosity increase.
  • Flash point drop
At recommended temperatures Mobiltherm does not lose much flash point. That is why you choose the grade by the highest oil temperature in your system.
  • Local overheating
Use Mobiltherm only in forced-circulation systems. Convection circulation does not give the flow that protects the oil from local overheating.
  • Cold system startup
Good low-temperature fluidity makes a cold system easier to start. Mobiltherm 603 has the lowest pour point in the series, −15°C.

When to change heat transfer oil? Test a sample

Heat transfer oil ages slowly, and faster when the system exceeds recommended temperatures. Sample analysis shows viscosity, oxidation and contamination, so you change the oil when it is needed. Order from OlejeSklep: heat transfer oil analysis. How oil analysis works

Questions before you buy

  • The highest bulk oil temperature in your system decides. In a closed system 603 works up to 285°C, and 605 and 610 up to 315°C; in an open system 603 up to 150°C, 605 up to 180°C and 610 up to 250°C. For Mobiltherm 610 the manufacturer also gives the oil film temperature: up to 330°C in a closed system and up to 265°C in an open one.

  • Yes, within the lower temperature limits given for each grade. The manufacturer does not recommend it where hot oil contacts air directly, because sprayed or leaking hot oil can self-ignite.

  • No. The manufacturer recommends not mixing Mobiltherm with other oils, because mixing reduces their thermal stability and oxidation resistance and makes remaining oil life harder to assess. Plan the changeover with us.

  • Only if it is designed for it, e.g. pressurized with an inert gas such as nitrogen. Otherwise there is a risk of vapor lock, and the oil breaks down much faster and has a shorter life.

  • Oil condition decides, not the calendar. Regular sample analysis shows whether the oil can keep working. Also test it after the system overheats, because above the recommended temperature the oil breaks down much faster.
