How the oil protects
  • Stains after annealing
Walzoel W-27 and Somentor AH 70 evaporate cleanly during annealing. With W-27 you anneal aluminum without degreasing first.
  • Dull surface
Somentor AH 70 gives a bright, shiny surface on cold-rolled steel, stainless steel and copper.
  • Dirty oil in circulation
Somentor AH 70 filters easily, including through activated earth, so it stays usable longer.
  • Oil leaking from bearings
Activated earth filters remove Wyrol BG 220, so a leak leaves no brown stains on aluminum.
  • Corrosion
Prosol NT 70 protects against corrosion in emulsion, and Wyrol BG 220 passes the ASTM D665 B rust test.

When to change rolling oil? Test a sample

Rolling mill oil works in a filtered circuit and wears gradually. A sample analysis shows viscosity, contamination, water and bearing oil ingress, so you change it when it is needed. How oil analysis works

Questions before you buy

  • Walzoel W-27 and Somentor AH 70 are used undiluted. Prosol NT 70 is mixed with water, usually at 5–10%, depending on the operation. The choice depends on the mill, the metal and the installation.

  • Walzoel W-27: it lets you anneal without degreasing and meets FDA 21 CFR 178.3910 for food packaging materials. The manufacturer intends Somentor AH 70 and Prosol NT 70 for steel and copper.

  • No. It is a synthetic oil for rolling mill bearings and gears with flood or oil mist lubrication. Activated earth filters remove it from the rolling oil.

  • Do not mix it with conventional bearing and gear oils. The changeover needs careful system preparation. We will help you plan it.

  • The condition of the oil in circulation decides, not the calendar. Regular sample analysis shows viscosity, contamination and water, and for an emulsion also its condition.
