Machine tool ways work under load, surrounded by water and coolant. Trouble starts with jerky table motion, oil washed off the ways and rust on sliding surfaces — before machining accuracy drops.
Jerky motion (stick-slip)
Controlled frictional properties help eliminate stick-slip. The table moves smoothly and machining stays repeatably accurate.
Oil in water-based coolant
Vactra separates from water and water-based coolants, so many coolants keep their properties longer. The manufacturer recommends it where oil shortens coolant sump life.
Oil runs off the ways
Tackiness keeps the oil on critical surfaces. For vertical and inclined ways, the manufacturer recommends No. 3 and No. 4.
Rust from water and coolant
Long-lasting rust and corrosion protection limits damage to sliding surfaces exposed to water and water-based coolants.

Choose No. 3 (ISO VG 150) and No. 4 (ISO VG 220) for large machines with high way loads and for vertical and inclined ways. The machine manual sets the final viscosity.
